Where This Filter Sits in the System
Stage 1 of a whole-house system
Removes sediment, dirt, rust, algae, turbidity, and other particulate contaminants. Protects downstream carbon / PFAS filters.
Not designed to remove chlorine, PFAS, or chemicals
-
Most homes should replace this filter every 6–12 months, depending on incoming water quality and household usage. Properties with high sediment levels, visible discoloration, or pressure drop may require more frequent replacement.
-
No. A 1 micron polyspun sediment filter is ideal as a first-stage filter in whole-house systems. It removes fine sediment while still maintaining good flow, especially when used in a 20” x 4.5” Big Blue housing.
-
When clean, pressure drop is minimal and unnoticeable. Any noticeable reduction in pressure usually indicates the filter is doing its job and becoming loaded with sediment, which is a sign it’s time for replacement.
-
No. This is a sediment-only filter designed to remove physical particles like rust, sand, and silt. It is intended to protect downstream filters such as carbon or PFAS filters, which handle chemical and contaminant removal.
-
This filter fits all Pure₂O whole-house filtration systems. It also will fit all standard 20” x 4.5” Big Blue–style housings. It is not compatible with slimline or 10” filter housings. If you’re unsure, check your housing size or contact us before purchasing.
-
This filter is typically installed at Stage 1, immediately after the mains water supply. Its role is to capture sediment before water reaches carbon, specialty media filters, appliances, and tapware.
-
Yes. The filter is made from food-grade, BPA-free polypropylene and is suitable for potable water applications when used in a Pure₂O Whole-House Water Filtration System, or another appropriately sized whole-house filtration system.
When to Replace
Replace approximately every 6–12 months, depending on incoming water quality and household water usage. Homes with high sediment loads may require more frequent replacement.
Typical Applications
Whole-house water filtration systems
Pre-filtration for carbon, PFAS, or specialty media filters
Residential, office, and light commercial installations
Compatibility Note
This cartridge suits standard 20” x 4.5” housings only. Not compatible with slimline 10” systems.
